Incomplete puzzles

I know my grandchild would love this puzzle series if they worked. I have tried, but am unable to complete even one puzzle. The pieces get stuck and bounce back to their original position like they are attached by springs.

I have an iPad2. Is that the problem?

Please help me with suggestions for settings or something that might help get this app working properly. Thanks.
